The program in computer engineering at Cal Poly offers students both undergraduate study toward a bachelor of science degree and the opportunity to continue into the graduate level in a number of related engineering fields. Students also must take elective coursework related to computers including graphics and multimedia, computer networks and software systems. Students take courses during four quarters rather than two semesters and finish the 192 required units in four years. During the senior year, the senior design project required of all students takes two quarters to complete.

Students in Bucknell University's computer engineering program must take classes in both computer science and electrical engineering. The program focuses on training in both hardware and software systems, but the curriculum's elective slots allow students to focus more on the computer science or engineering areas. Students work toward a bachelor of science degree, but the college does not offer graduate study in this area of engineering. All students must take two courses in humanities, three writing courses and two courses in social sciences among the 128 course credits required to complete the degree.
