Alabama's Engineering Colleges

Students pursuing an engineering degree in Alabama have a variety of options at the undergraduate and graduate level. Engineering programs include mechanical engineering, civil engineering, aerospace engineering, electronics engineering and more. Any prospective program should be accredited through the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Local engineering firms may offer internships or cooperative opportunities to give students professional experience in the field.
  1. Auburn University

    • The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University offers a number of undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering. The university has been offering engineering education and training since 1872. Students have an opportunity to purse such areas as software engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and civil engineering. Opportunities are also available for students to participate in internships with local engineering firms and perform research at the 12 research laboratories on campus.

    University of Alabama

    • According to the University of Alabama, its engineering program started in 1837 and is the oldest in the state and one of the five oldest engineering programs in the country. Academic opportunities are available at the undergraduate and graduate level in aerospace engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, materials engineering and others. As of 2011, the College of Engineering has about 2,700 students enrolled in the programs and more than 100 faculty members.

    University of South Alabama

    • The College of Engineering at the University of South Alabama offers engineering degrees at the bachelor's and master's level. Students have the opportunity to study electrical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer engineering. A master's degree program offers student an option of complete a thesis or engineering project in order to graduate. A cooperative educational program offers students an opportunity to gain professional work experience in the field.

    Tuskegee University

    • Students at Tuskegee University have engineering opportunities in electrical engineering, chemical engineering, aerospace science engineering, mechanical engineering, and materials science and engineering. A portion of the curriculum is available online and requires students to have a computer with high-speed Internet access, along with an up-to-date operating system. Graduates of an engineering program are prepared for careers in the government, private industry, or academia and research. All research for undergraduate and graduate students takes place at the T-CAM, which opened in 1987.
