Oregon State University's College of Engineering encompasses six schools that collectively offer 13 undergraduate degree programs, including chemical, civil, ecological, electrical and computer, nuclear, industrial, mechanical and manufacturing engineering, bioengineering, computer science, engineering physics, radiation health physics and construction engineering management. At the graduate level, Oregon State offers Masters of Science, Masters of Engineering and Ph.D.s in.many of the aforementioned fields, in addition to an M.S. and Ph.D. in water resources engineering.
The College of Engineering has an annual enrollment of approximately 3,100 undergraduates and 500 graduate students. Notable alumni include Douglas Engelbart, who invented the computer mouse, and M. Lowell Edwards, who invented the first artificial heart valve.
The University of Portland's Donald P. Shiley School of Engineering occupies the single largest building on the university's campus. It offers four-year Bachelor of Science degrees in civil engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering, as well as engineering management. The school also offers an M.E. in conjunction with the Pamplin School of Business Administration that is designed to prepare candidates for the industry by building their technical as well as managerial skills. Possible business concentrations include entrepreneurship, marketing and management, and new venture development.
U.S. News and World Report deemed the Oregon Institute of Technology the seventh best college in its Regional Colleges (West) for 2011. The institute's School of Engineering, Technology and Management offers baccalaureate programs in civil, electrical, mechanical and renewable energy engineering, as well as software, computer, manufacturing, embedded systems and mechanical engineering technologies. OIT also offers masters programs in manufacturing engineering technology and civil engineering. All programs are available at OIT's four-year campus in Klamath Falls, while a select few are available at the Portland campus.
Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science, a school at the Portland State University, awards undergraduate degrees in civil, computer, electrical, environmental and mechanical engineering. The college's "Compressed Work Week Program" offers biweekly classes on consecutive days and Saturday classes to help working professionals earn a baccalaureate degree.
At the graduate level, Maseeh College offers M.S.s and M.E.s in several of the aforementioned majors, as well as manufacturing engineering, software engineering and systems engineering, which is a distance learning program. Ph.D.s are awarded in civil and environmental engineering, electrical and computer engineering, engineering and technology management and mechanical engineering.
