Los Angeles is home to an array of great schools that specialize in many different fields, including film and television, as L.A. is the world's movie hotbed.

    • The University of Southern California, more commonly referred to as USC, is a private research university located in the University Park neighborhood of L.A. USC is California's oldest private research university, as it was founded in 1880. USC enrolls about an equal number of graduate and undergraduate students--17,000 each--across all of its disciplines. The university has recently benefited from an influx of funds and donations. The School of Cinematic Arts, largely supported by director George Lucas, is one of the world's top film schools, while the schools of medicine and law have annually risen in the rankings.

    University of California--Los Angeles

    • The University of California--Los Angeles, located in the posh Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, is one of ten UC campuses. Founded in 1919, UCLA enrolls 26,000 undergraduates and 11,000 graduate students. UCLA has five undergraduate colleges, seven professional schools and a total of over 300 degree programs. No school in the United States receives more undergraduate applications than UCLA; of the 55,000 students that apply annually, just over 20 percent are accepted. Academic highlights include the School of Art and Architecture and the School of Theater, Film and Television.

    Occidental College

    • Occidental College is a private small liberal arts college situated in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles. Known as \"Oxy\" to its students and staff, Occidental is noted for its small size compared to most West Coast colleges; total enrollment hovers around 1,800 students, all undergraduates. The College has a rigorous program called \"The Core,\" which requires students to take two freshman writing seminars, take a series of classes in the arts and sciences, pass at least three math and science courses and pass comprehensive exams prior to graduation. Among those that attended but did not graduate from Occidental are Ben Affleck and Barack Obama; the latter transferred and graduated from Columbia.
