Colleges in Palmdale, California

Palmdale is a city of about 150,000 people, located in Los Angeles County, California. The city, which is separated from the city of Los Angeles by a mountain range, covers about 105 square miles. Within the city limits are a number of institutions of higher learning, most of which are satellite campuses of universities based elsewhere. There are, however, two universities that base their operations within the city limits.
  1. Public Colleges

    • DeVry University, an international school that confers degrees in the arts, business, science, management and technology, has a campus in Palmdale that includes a graduate school of management. The university's Palmdale campus is one of more than 90 DeVry campuses in the U.S. and Canada.

      The Antelope Valley Community College District also has a satellite campus in Palmdale and has plans to build a full-size campus in the city. The district has bought about 60 acres of land for the new campus and intends to begin building after enrollment at the satellite campus grows to 500. In 2010, enrollment was about 470.

    Private Colleges

    • Brandman University, which was known until 2009 as Chapman University College, has a campus in Palmdale; it's affiliated with Chapman University, a private Christian school headquartered in Orange County, California. The University of La Verne also has a satellite campus in Palmdale. La Verne is a doctoral research university based east of Los Angeles.

    Specialized Colleges

    • The AERO Institute at the Palmdale Institute of Technology is located at the Palmdale Civic Center; it's a specialized school operated by the City of Palmdale and NASA. The AERO Institute offers undergraduate and graduate schooling in engineering and aerospace science. The institute has agreements with numerous universities to provide specialized courses, including Purdue, the University of Southern California, Pepperdine University and the University of San Diego.

    Unaccredited Colleges

    • International American University has operations bases in Palmdale and Los Angeles. The university operates a School of Business & Technology; it offers a curriculum in business management and administration. IAU offers many types of degrees, but it has not sought accreditation or recognition from the US Department of Education.
