The University of California features campuses throughout the state, in Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz. All campuses but one enroll undergraduate and graduate students; UC San Francisco is dedicated exclusively to graduate education in the health sciences.

These medical centers operate as the primary teaching sites for their respective campus medical schools. The University of California's medical schools rank among the top in the country.
The University of California is affiliated with a number of national laboratories in the Western United States. The system operates and manages the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, a United States Department of Energy National Laboratory. The University system also maintains limited partnership in the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico, and in the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California.
The University of California has developed a significant presence throughout the state and around the world, with a number of ancillary locations. Educational opportunities through the University of California are available at campuses in Washington, D.C., Mexico City and London.
