Include the encyclopedia citation on the Works Cited page of your paper. Put it in alphabetical order with your other sources.
Write the author's name; put the last name first, followed by a comma and then the first name. Place a period at the end of the name. If only the author's initials appear at the end of the article, consult the encyclopedia's key to locate the full name. If no author is given, skip to Step 3.
Write the title of the article enclosed in quotation marks. Place a period inside the last quotation mark.
Write the title of the encyclopedia, and italicize the name, followed by a period. Next write the edition of the encyclopedia, in this format: 15th ed.
Close the citation with most recent publication date for the encyclopedia, followed by a period. Add the word "Print" to indicate that you are looking at a print version of the encyclopedia
A full MLA citation for an encyclopedia article should look like this:
Forrest, Susan. "Shakespearean Theater." The New Encyclopedia Britannica. 15th ed. 1995. Print.

Write the word "In" followed by the name of the encyclopedia italicized. Next, write the volume number of the encyclopedia, preceded by the abbreviation "Vol.," followed by a comma and the page numbers of the article, preceded by the abbreviation "pp." Enclose these elements together in parentheses.
Close the citation with the location and name of the publisher, separated with a colon.
A full APA citation for an encyclopedia article should look like this:
Forrest, S. (1995). Shakespearean Theater. In the New Encyclopedia Britannica (Vol. 5, p. 116-118). Chicago: Encyclopedia Britannica. This citation should appear on the Reference page of your paper in alphabetical order with your other sources.
