How to Cite Music in a Bibliography

Music can inspire many different paper topics, such as those dealing with the structure, influences and societal implications of the work. The American Psychological Association, Modern Language Association and Chicago Manual of Style give specific guidelines for citing music in your papers. The proper citation is necessary because it communicates to your reader the exact song you are discussing in your paper.

Enter the recording year if the song was recorded in a different year than its original copyright year; otherwise, the citation is complete without the recording year.
