How do I Cite Encyclopedia Pages?

When writing a paper at the college or university level, many professors will require students to cite their sources. This means attributing your information to wherever you obtained it from--in some cases an encyclopedia. Depending on your professor, they may request that you cite your sources in a certain style, such as MLA or APA style.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a page titled "Works Cited" on a piece of paper or in your work processing software if you are typing your report on a computer.

    • 2

Use the following format and fill in the information from an encyclopedia and topic in MLA style: Author. The name of the article in quotation marks. The name of the encyclopedia, underlined. Edition. Year.

    • 3

Use the APA format, if preferred, and fill in the information from your own encyclopedia and topic. The format for citing an encyclopedia in APA format is written like this:

Last name of the author, first initial. Year in brackets. Topic. Name of encyclopedia, italicized. The volume and page number, in brackets. The city published, followed by a colon and the publisher's name.
