Riverside Community College has three different campuses in the Inland Empire offering classes in music. Courses offered differ at each campus, with the most held at the main campus in Riverside. Classes include Music Theory, Classical Piano, and the Riverside Community Symphony. Some prerequisites apply for joining advanced music classes, and placement tests are available for those looking to join the Jazz Orchestra or the Symphony.
California Baptist University, or Cal Baptist, is a small Christian-based private school. The Collinsworth School of Music at CBU offers a bachelor's degree in music or a minor in music as well as a master of music graduate program. The University Choir and Orchestra is the main performance group at the school, featuring more than 150 singers and musicians and performing over 40 times a year. The school's Small Groups travel and perform eight weeks each summer across the country.
La Sierra University is also a private Christian-based school located off the 91 freeway on the west side of Riverside. The school features two updated recording studios that are open for both students and the public to use for a small fee. The program offers courses in opera, choir, big band, and several other music disciplines. Undergraduate degrees include performance, music technology, and music education.
UCR's Department of Music features EARS, the Experimental Acoustic Research Studio, which is dedicated to discovering and developing all aspects of constantly evolving digital music and media. The college features standard ensembles such as orchestra and chamber music, and more exotic forms like the Andean music ensemble Mayupatapi. Undergraduate programs include minors and majors in music. Graduate programs include composition, ethnomusicology and musicology. UCR also offers a PhD in music.
