The Voice department of this school offers students the opportunity to study a wide range of styles and techniques to better shape and hone their own unique sound. Courses cover topics that range from the basics found in the Vocal Technique courses, to the pronunciation of foreign words in the Diction course and the application of music theory in the Applied Theory Course. Admissions to the St. Paul, Minn., school are based on auditions that may be conducted in person or via a video recording.
The Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music's Vocal program seeks to instruct students by "combining technical and creative development with continuous live performing experience." The school offers Bachelor of Music, Associate of Arts, certification and non-certification programs, depending on the student's desires. Each program includes courses on vocal technique, vocal performance, sightsinging and sightreading. The school is located in Hollywood, Calif., and accepts applications on a year-round basis.
The Vocal Music program at Olympic College in Bremerton, Wash., offers students the opportunity to participate in one of the school's numerous vocal ensembles and choirs. Students can choose from the audition-based Chamber Choir and Jazzline ensembles, or the non-audition-based Concert Choir and Vocal Jazz ensembles. Every two years, the program also puts on an opera in which vocal students are allowed to participate. Since Olympic College is a two-year public community college, admissions to any of their vocal programs are open to the public.
The Bard College Conservatory of Music, located in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., offers a Master of Music program in vocal performance. As many as eight students are accepted every year after submitting an application pack that includes an application, two letters of recommendation and a vocal performance audition tape. The program includes four core seminar courses and three workshop courses, coupled with private vocal coaching and voice instruction. The seminars and workshops cover subjects ranging from "Singing and Song in the Global Era" and "The Singer and the Stage," to "Vocal Chamber Music" and "Constructing a Career."
