Located in Seattle, Cornish College of the Arts is a private, nonsectarian institution with approximately 800 undergraduate students. The college's bachelor of fine arts degree in vocal performance allows students to specialize in jazz or classical musical. An audition is required for admittance to the program. In addition to courses in performance, music theory and vocal arranging, the program requires classes in life and physical sciences as well as in humanities. All students are required to participate in weekly concerts, studio laboratory performance courses and end-of-semester recitals, and have the option to participate in chamber choir and opera and musical theater productions.

The Lutheran Church founded Pacific Lutheran University in the city of Tacoma in 1890, and since that time, the school has grown to an enrollment of more than 3,200 undergraduate students. Among the focuses for the college's vocal performance bachelor's degree are choral, operatic and jazz musical styles. Required courses outside of music include natural sciences, mathematics, religious studies and diversity. More than five optional vocal performance groups are located on campus and between these ensembles and the university's departmental concerts and recitals, the university provides students with more than 100 performance opportunities per year. An audition is not necessary for admission, however, the Music Department offers specialized scholarships, which require an audition to obtain.

Home to more than 13,400 undergraduate students, public Western Washington University is 60 miles south of Vancouver, Canada, and 90 miles north of Seattle in the small town of Bellingham. Auditions are mandatory for entry into the bachelor's of music in vocal performance program. Students have the opportunity to perform in mixed concert choirs, men's and women's choirs and opera and music theater performances held throughout the year. A limited number of undergraduate scholarships for music students are available. The university also offers a master of fine arts degree in vocal performance through its graduate school, which was ranked nineteenth among all graduate schools in the western United States by U.S. News and World Report in 2010.
