Offering programs of study in 23 areas of music, the University of Colorado at Boulder's College of Music attracts students with a variety of professional goals. The small student body of just 350 undergraduate and 200 graduate students allows professors to give every student individual attention. In addition to concentrations in instrumental performance, the college offers programs in musician's wellness, music education, theory and composition. Students at the College of Music have access to all the university's amenities, campus organizations and resources.
Located in Fort Collins, Colorado, Contemporary Music College offers a one-year academic-intensive program for aspiring professional musicians. Students learn to perform and teach contemporary styles of music, including jazz, rock, country and bluegrass. While the institution doesn't offer baccalaureate degrees, students graduate from the program with certification in either teaching or performing. In addition to courses in applied instruments, they learn music history, theory and ear training. As of 2011, the college is in the process of becoming accredited.
Colorado College's music department offers two broad tracks of study. Students choosing the theory and composition curriculum focus on mastering the notation, structure, and language of music. Students following the "topics" curriculum take the bulk of their courses in music history, music and society, and other special topics. While the department offers a degree track for majors and minors, many students of other majors and minors at Colorado College enroll in music courses to supplement their collegiate experience.
Offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, the University of Northern Colorado attracts students with diverse backgrounds and musical interests. Undergraduate majors include jazz, keyboard, music education, voice and music with a focus on composition. Additionally, many students audition to perform with one of the school's nine orchestral, choral, operatic or theatrical ensembles. The School of Music is home to the annual UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival and the Colorado All-State Band Festival as well as alternating music symposiums throughout the year.
