The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma offers a four-year bachelor's degree in music that includes classes in music theory, music technology, music history, aural skills, forms and analysis and principles of conducting. Students can specialize in areas including studio teaching, performance, music business and industry or teacher certification. Interdisciplinary studies courses, such as beginning drawing, introduction to computer science, American civilization and foundations of life science, are also required. All of Oklahoma's courses are taught by fully licensed professors; there are no teaching assistants. Students can take in musical performances at the school's Davis-Waldorf Performing Arts Series and join groups such as the pep band, vocal jazz ensemble, synthesizer ensemble, opera scenes class and productions from the college's musical theater department. Students must have a high school diploma and a minimum SAT score of 1090 or a minimum ACT score of 24. If these scores are not met, students with a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 and ranking in the top third of their class will be considered.

At the School of Music in the University of Central Oklahoma's College of Fine Arts and Design, students can select one of five bachelor's degrees, including vocal performance, instrumental performance and music theater, and two master's degrees, in music or jazz studies. Classes include history of music theater, materials of modern music, aural skills, Italian singing diction, recital attendance, piano proficiency, string techniques, developmental psychology, applied voice and major ensembles. Students may participate in ensembles such as bands, choirs, operas, keyboard studies and orchestras. Undergraduate applicants must have a high school diploma, ACT or SAT scores and a record of vaccinations for hepatitis B and measles, mumps and rubella. Students seeking admission to the master's programs must have a bachelor's degree in music, complete an audition and sit for tests in music theory and literature, vocal sight-reading and instrument performance. Master's candidates must also perform a graduate recital.

Music majors at Oral Roberts University select from three bachelor's degrees: bachelor of music education, bachelor of music (composition, sacred music, performance or composition technology) or bachelor of arts in music (music arts or music technology). They can get involved in Mu Phi Epsilon, the international music honor society, and the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference. Oral Roberts also offers musical groups by audition, such as the jazz ensemble, university chorale, chamber singers, opera theater, guitar ensemble and wind ensemble. A live audition is required for some majors. All students take a theory placement exam. Oral Roberts is a Christian university, but no religious affiliation is required. Application requires a high school diploma or GED with a cumulative grade-point average of 2.6 and 52, respectively. Students should rank in the top 40 percent of their classes and have ACT and SAT scores of 20 and 940, respectively.
