Located in Hartford, the Hartt School is the performing arts conservatory within the University of Hartford. The school offers a Bachelor of Music degree in which students specialize their studies in a number of areas, including jazz studies, instrumental performance, music management, music education and music production and technology to name a few. Students may also pursue a Master of Music, Master of Music Education, Doctor of Musical Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education at the conservatory.
Performance and private training opportunities abound at the conservatory with over 400 different options, including recitals, concerts and master classes as well as the opportunity to watch professional performances. The conservatory maintains a partnership with the Hartford Stage and Hartford Symphony Orchestra, which presents performance-in-training opportunities for students.

Connecticut College's Department of Music offers students a conservatory style approach with a liberal arts based education, where students receive practical and personalized training. Students receive private lessons, intense music theory study and audition opportunities for performance ensembles, orchestras and groups. Students studying music technology or production receive their training in the state of the art Cummings Electronic and Digital Sound Studio, which serves both as a classroom environment and a working studio.
Music majors specialize in a variety of fields, including technology, music education, performance, composition, theory and jazz studies. The college promotes study abroad programs that transport music students to a number of countries, including Vietnam, Greece, Italy and India. Juniors who maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average may also apply for independent study through the honors program. Students choosing to do so work hand-in-hand with a faculty member, researching and completing a project by their senior year within the specialized music field they are studying.

One of the most prestigious academic institutions in the United States, Yale College offers music students first-rate facilities and training. Along with a the competitive graduate-level school of music, the college also maintains the Institute for Sacred Music and preserves a library of scores, books, recordings and a collection of historically significant instruments and manuscripts, some of which are originals.
Students within Yale's department of music receive bachelor's degrees in music upon graduation, and with referrals have the option of completing a fifth year to earn a master's degree in music. Undergraduate students in good standing also have the ability to study as an "intensive" music major, with independent study, research and projects as part of the work load. Music majors at Yale receive a general music degree with a well-rounded scholarship of performance, composition, conducting, ethnomusicology, music history and music theory.
Graduate degrees with concentrations in composition, performance and conducting are primarily offered through the Yale School of Music; however, students may receive doctorates in music history and music theory through the Department of Music.
