The state of Washington has several colleges to choose from, depending on if you prefer a public or private institution and how much you are willing to spend each year for it. Bellevue College offers only undergraduate-degree programs, while Washington State University allows you to pursue masters and doctoral degrees. Some colleges offer athletics programs, while others do not. Consider the kind of college experience you'd like to have before you make your decision.
  1. Bellevue College

    • Bellevue is a state college located in Bellevue, Washington. The college has an annual student enrollment of approximately 38,000, as of 2010. A little more than half the student population is female, with the average age range of students being about 30 years old. Degree programs include Business, Biology, Art, Nursing and Political Science. The college's athletic program includes Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Baseball and Golf. 86 percent of professional/technical graduates find employment within nine months of graduation. The college is the third-largest institution of higher learning in the state, and about 17% of students receive financial aid. As of 2011, annual tuition rates are about $1,200 for in-state students and $2,900 for out-of-state students.

    Whitman College

    • Whitman College is a private, liberal arts and sciences undergraduate college with a wide range of academic programs, including Economics, Psychology, Theater, Politics, Environmental Studies and more. The college is located in the city of Walla Walla, which is four and a half hours from Seattle, four hours from Portland and two and a half hours from Spokane. The student-faculty ratio is nine to one, and annual enrollment is approximately 1,500. 76 percent of students receive financial aid annually. Yearly tuition is approximately $50,000.

    Washington State University

    • With an annual enrollment of more than 26,000 students, Washington State University has campuses in Pullman, Spokane, Richland and Vancouver. There is also an online division. A little more than half the students enrolled are female, with a faculty-to-student ratio of 15 to one. The university has 12 colleges, which include a college of Communication, Education, Nursing and Pharmacy. There is also a graduate school. As of 2011, annual tuition runs about $9,500 for in-state students and approximately $20,500 for out-of-state students. About 75% of students receive financial aid each year.

    Clover Park Technical College

    • Clover Park Technical College is located in Lakewood, Washington, about eight miles southwest of downtown Tacoma. The college offers more than 50 programs, including business, allied health and communications. Students have access to tutoring services, GED preparation and testing and advising and counseling. The college also has a South Hill campus. There is no athletics program. Tuition and fees for the 2010-2011 school year is $3,945, and financial aid is available.
