The Evergreen State College, located in the capital of Olympia, has made its name in the academic world for its innovative policies. Students study by program area, rather than a specific academic discipline, and are exposed to a wide range of topics relating to a specific program area. Students do not receive grades, but rather receive detailed evaluations by their professors; self-evaluations also go into their files. The Evergreen State College also offers Native American and World Indigenous Peoples Studies, which centers around native peoples of the Pacific Northwest, the Americas and around the world. The school has about 4,400 students.
