Christian-Based Colleges in Washington State

For a number of students, a learning environment that fosters their religious faith is of great importance. Several postsecondary schools in the state of Washington are affiliated with Christianity, meaning they integrate the beliefs, values and outlook of their Christian faith into the structure and curriculum of their institution. These schools allow students to study in proximity to like-minded people who share their religious convictions.

    • Seattle Pacific University was founded in 1891 and is dedicated to providing postsecondary education rooted in the Christian gospels. As of 2010, its student population was 3,800. According to its statement of faith, the university is historically orthodox, evangelical, ecumenical and grounded in the Wesleyan tradition. Bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs are available in areas of study that include the liberal arts, business, economics, education, nursing, psychology, theology and health science.

    Gonzaga University

    • Founded in 1881 by Jesuit priests, Gonzaga University is a private college dedicated to the Catholic and humanistic tradition of learning. The on-campus ministry promotes faith development through retreats, service projects, liturgies and residence programs. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the liberal arts, social science, business administration, education, law, engineering, applied science and nursing. Several graduate programs are also available through online distance learning.

    Trinity Lutheran College

    • Located 25 miles north of Seattle, Trinity Lutheran College is a private, Christian-based liberal arts school founded in the Lutheran tradition. It ascribes to a "living-learning community" educational model that incorporates religious faith into all aspects of learning. The college offers bachelor's degree programs in biblical studies, business and management, child and family studies, communications, childhood education, music and worship, psychology and intercultural studies. Certificate programs in biblical studies, child and family studies, childhood education and intercultural studies are also available.

    • The mission of Whitworth University, founded in 1890, is to "honor God, follow Christ and serve humanity." The university provides Christian-based education to 2,700 students as of 2010.
