State Colleges in Ohio

The state of Ohio is home to a number of public universities that grant bachelor's and graduate-level degrees in fields like business, life and physical sciences, engineering, healthcare, the arts and the social sciences. The state colleges in Ohio also offer opportunities for students outside of traditional classroom settings through study abroad and hands-on work experiences. Students at Ohio's state college can also participate in student life, including athletic teams and social groups.
  1. Ohio State University

    • With more than 53,000 undergraduate and graduate students at its main branch in Columbus, Ohio State University is not only the largest school in the state, but one of the largest in the country. U.S. News and World Report rated Ohio State fifty-third among universities in the nation in 2010. The school offers a wide variety of majors, from aeronautics to zoology to music to risk management. The school's engineering, business and social programs are among its largest, according to the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. Among student life activity options are 37 intercollegiate and 95 intramural sports teams as well as more than 50 Greek organizations and 750 student groups.

    Bowling Green State University

    • Located 25 miles south of Toldeo, Bowling Green State University is home to more than 14,800 undergraduates. Around 90 percent of the school's enrollment consists of Ohio residents, according to the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. For undergraduates, the school's biology, psychology and early childhood education programs are the largest. The university offers a number of internship and paid co-operative learning positions as well as the opportunity to spend a semester in Washington, D.C. There are 22 intercollegiate sports teams on campus. Around 11 percent of the male students and 12 percent of the females belong to the university's 44 Greek organizations, according to Barron's.

    Kent State University

    • Established in 1910, Kent State University is 45 mile southeast of Cleveland. Business and psychology are the most popular programs among the school's more than 18,000 undergraduates, while the school's architecture, education and fashion design and merchandising programs are its highest rated academically, reports the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. In addition to co-operative programs related to students' majors, the college also offers work study placements with large companies in the Cleveland area. Study abroad opportunities are also available for students. For athletes, the school is home to 16 intercollegiate and 50 intramural teams. There are 26 Greek organizations and nearly 200 other student groups represented at Kent State.
