Akron, Ohio Colleges

Located in northeastern Ohio, around 39 miles south of Lake Erie, Akron is known for many things including its rubber production and for being the first to use patrol cars. It is also a major center of polymer research. It is also a city of colleges and universities that provide centers of research as well labor training to provide for a diverse economy. The city is also home to a medical school and other institutions of higher education. These institutions offer such things as graduate, bachelors, associates degrees and certificate programs.
  1. Brown Mackie College Akron

    • Found in the northwest part of the city, Brown Mackie College offers certificate programs and associates degrees. It offers majors in nursing, veterinary medicine, law, wellness and healthcare, business, early child education and business. Courses are scheduled one per month.

    Strayer University

    • Also located in the northwestern part of Akron is Strayer University. Degrees it offers include bachelor's, master's and associates degrees. Certificate programs offered include undergraduate certificates and executive graduate certificates. The university also offers diploma programs. Majors offered include accounting, criminal justice, business, information systems, health services administration and public administration.

    Akron Institute of Herzing University

    • The Akron Institute of Herzing University, located in the southeast part of Akron, offers certificate programs, associates degrees and bachelor's programs. The majors at the Akron Institute of Herzing University include accounting, business administration, health information management, dental assisting, legal assisting, paralegal, criminal justice, graphic design, medical assisting, technology management and medical billing and insurance coding.

    University of Akron

    • In the heart of Akron is the University of Akron. Founded in 1870 in association with the Universalist Church, the University of Akron is now the fourth largest public university in the state of Ohio. The university offers bachelor's, masters, and doctoral degrees, and also offers certificate programs. The university offers 300 undergraduate majors and over 100 graduate programs.
