Twenty-two colleges in Ohio are listed at the NCAA's (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division 3 level. The Division includes both public and private institutions, including schools that are highly regarded for their academic excellence. The Ohio schools participating in Division 3 offer a variety of sports that include football, baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and cross-country, among others.
  1. Case Western Reserve University

    • Founded in 1826, Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) boasts an endowment of $1.4 billion, much of which gives the university its reputation as one of the nation's top research institutions. The university consists of academic divisions in the arts and sciences, engineering, nursing, business management, medicine, law, dentistry, and applied social science. Approximately 10,000 students are enrolled there each year. Division 3 athletics are offered in a variety of sports such as baseball, football, basketball, cross-country, track and field, softball, soccer, and volleyball.

    Oberlin College and Conservatory

    • Founded in 1833, Oberlin College and Conservatory was the first U.S. college to admit women and African Americans. Oberlin's conservatory offers students opportunities to study music in a variety of different performance fields, including conducting and composition. Music programs can be taken in conjunction with the programs in the arts and sciences through Oberlin College. Students can pursue joint degrees in music and a liberal arts field. Oberlin offers a variety of academic degrees in various fields such as German language and literature, gender, sexuality and feminist studies, and Russian and East European studies. The college offers 22 different sports at the Division 3 level of the NCAA. Oberlin typically has over 350 student athletes on campus each year. Sports offered by the school include football, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, and field hockey.

    Wittenberg University

    • Founded in 1845, Wittenberg University was established in the Evangelical Lutheran tradition of the Christian church. Much of its academic reputation is based on its programs in the arts and sciences, and approximately 2,000 students are enrolled there each year. One aspect of its innovative educational curriculum is that the school allows undergraduate students to design their own major from among 60 choices. Men's Division 3 sports include baseball, basketball, track and field, tennis, golf, cross country, soccer, and lacrosse. Women's sports incude basketball, volleyball, field hockey, tennis, track and field, golf, soccer, lacrosse, swimming and diving, and softball.
