The University of Washington includes its main campus in Seattle as well as locations in Bothell and Tacoma. UW enrolls more than 16,000 undergraduate and graduate students on its campuses. It consists of 150 departments that award more than 250 degrees. The university has two medical centers---UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center. In 2008, US News and World Report ranked 15 UW programs in the top 10. As of 2010, six faculty members have won Nobel Prizes.

Evergreen State College is a liberal arts college in Olympia, offering bachelor's and master's degrees to more than 4,000 students. The curriculum focuses on the arts, culture, economics and education. This University also has an organic farm on its main campus and campuses in Tacoma, Gray Harbor and Washington's tribal communities. Evergreen has several ongoing research projects, such as The Evergreen Ecological Observation Network. EEON monitored the ecosystem of the lowland Puget Sound and forests surrounding the campus.

Everett's Trinity Lutheran College is a private, liberal arts Christian college that awards associate and bachelor's degrees. The university offers nine majors and 12 minors in more than 30 areas of study. Programs include biblical studies, early childhood education, music, intercultural studies, and psychology. Trinity enrolls more than 100 students each year. The Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning conducts community projects to help needy residents. Students submit weekly logs of their designated projects.

The university grants degrees in more than 40 majors, minors and interdisciplinary programs. Puget Sound offers more than 1,200 courses in arts, science, music, education, Asian studies, occupational therapy and physical therapy. Pacific Rim/Asia Study-Travel Program consists of nine months of intensive academic and cultural experiences. Students travel to eight Asian countries and engage in classroom work and associate with residents of these countries.
