One of the six New England states, Connecticut is known for its historic colonial homes and landmarks, as well as for its shoreline and scenic river valleys. The state is also home to some prestigious universities that offer the student a variety of choices in higher education.

    • Yale University enjoys a reputation as one of the world's great universities. Founded in 1701, Yale has 13,000 undergraduate, graduate and international students and offers more than sixty-five liberal arts and science majors. With a student-teacher ratio of 7 to 1, the university is known for its small class sizes. Ninety-one percent of faculty members doctorate or other terminal degrees. Yale provides a host of student services, including on-campus housing, health insurance and financial aid in the form of grants, scholarships and loans, as well as thirty-five varsity athletic teams.     Wesleyan University

    • Wesleyan University, located on a 120-acre campus overlooking the Connecticut River, is known for its academic and co-curricular programs. Founded in 1831, the university has an enrollment of 3,300 undergraduate and graduate students and offers degrees in more than forty-seven majors. The university boasts a student-teacher ratio of 9 to 1, with most faculty members holding a doctorate or similar degree. Its student services include on-campus housing and financial aid assistance. In addition, the university has twenty-nine varsity sports teams, as well as more than 200 student organizations.     Quinnipiac University

    • Quinnipiac University is a private university located next to Sleeping Giant Mountain in Hamden, about 90 minutes from New York City. Home to just under 8,000 students, the university offers degrees in more than seventy majors and graduate programs, as well as study abroad and summer research programs. Class size averages fewer than 25 students, with a student-teacher ratio of 16 to 1. On-campus housing is available, as well as financial aid for eligible students. The university has nineteen athletic programs for both men and women, more than thirty intramural sports and more than seventy student clubs and organizations.
