The University of Washington is located in the University District a few minutes outside of downtown Seattle. Its School of Music provides a solid education for those who wish to pursue a career in the musical arts after their undergraduate or graduate degree. At a size of about 400 students in both the undergraduate and graduate programs, the School of Music offers degrees in music conducting, music history, music theory and composition, ethnomusicology, and jazz studies, among a variety of other options. Students who take part in the music program will take part in performances on campus and around the city of Seattle. The University of Washington School of Music is a four-year program. Those who wish to apply must send in an online application first. Once you have sent in your application, you need to set up an audition date with the School of Music. Successful completion of the application and audition will allow for admittance to the School of Music.

Located in Pullman on the eastern border of Washington, the WSU School of Music was created in 1901 on the Washington State campus. Housed in the Kimbrough Music Building, the School of Music offers bachelor's degrees in music education, performance, composition/theory, and music. There is a graduate degree available in music as well. Scholarships are available for qualified students. Auditions are required for special scholarships, entry into the graduate program, and entry into specific ensembles.

Founded in 1914, Cornish College of the Arts is committed solely to the arts, both performing and visual. As the oldest music conservatory on the West Coast, Cornish provides a bachelor of music degree in voice, instrumental performance, and composition, with a special emphasis on classical and jazz composition. The goal of the institution is to provide specialized training for those interested in the arts. Besides smaller class sizes there are hour-long one-on-one training sessions for students who enter the music program. Potential students must audition, interview, and take a placement test before being allowed to enter the program.
