Mid-State Technical College offers three nursing programs -- practical nursing, or PN, associate degree nursing, or AND, and licensed PN to ADN bridge. The traditional and bridge ADN programs start each August and January, while the PN program starts in August only. Students complete the PN and licensed PN to ADN programs in one year, while the traditional ADN program takes two years to complete.
Applicants must complete all prerequisites before applying to any of the three programs. Submitted transcripts must show one year of high school chemistry with a grade B or better or one semester of college chemistry with a grade C or better; general anatomy and physiology with a grade B- or better; and developmental psychology, written communication, advanced anatomy and physiology and microbiology with a grade C or better. PN applicants are not required to take advanced anatomy and physiology or microbiology.
All programs require the completed application, high school or GED equivalent transcripts, a background check, satisfactory scores on the admissions test and payment of fees. Licensed PN to ADN applicants must submit a copy of their current and unencumbered LPN certification and license. The program admits applicants on a rolling basis, as seats are available. Before starting the nursing core courses, students must submit a copy of a current CPR license and provide proof of immunizations for measles, mumps, rubella, varicella and tuberculosis.
As of 2011, the total cost for the ADN program is estimated at $10,431 -- the PN programs costs $5460. These estimates include tuition and fees, textbooks, malpractice insurance, testing fees, uniforms, supplies, clinical clearance, graduation fees and licensure. The program costs do not take into account room and board, transportation, childcare or other personal needs. Mid-State Technical College does offer financial aid in the form of grants, agency support, work-study, federal loans and local and state scholarships. Applicants can apply for financial aid only after submitting a completed application.
