When you have the desire to care for and manage horses as a profession, choose an online college for an equine degree to give you the flexibility of studying at home around your busy schedule. Online equine degree programs train their students in the horse sciences related to health, nutrition and safety, and they equip the students with the skills and "know-how" related to caring for, managing and riding horses.
  1. Breyer State University

    • Earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Equine Studies online with Breyer State University. In the pursuit of their degree, students will take courses on horse knowledge, care and management including equine reproduction, coat color genetics, equine safety and rescue, stable management and legal aspects of horse management. Enrollment in the Bachelor of Science degree program is an easy three-step process, and the online college offers scholarships, grants and financial aid to its students. If you've taken equine studies or equine science classes at another college, you can transfer those credits to Breyer State College to go towards your degree.

    Global Equine Academy

    • Pursue a Bachelor of Science degree with an equine minor through Global Equine Academy's partnership with Dickinson State University, located in Dickinson, North Dakota. All courses are offered online, and students can choose to matriculate towards a Bachelor of University Studies with the Equine Minor or a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with the Equine Minor.

      As of 2010, students pursuing either degree will take 24 credits in equine studies, 39 credits in General Education classes, and the required courses for their degree choice to equal a total of 128 credits for the Bachelor of Science degree.

      Equine study courses offered in the Equine Minor program include equine nutrition, breeding/genetics, equine health and diseases, equine anatomy and selection and equine training.

      Global Equine Academy, in partnership with Dickinson State University, also offers an Associate of Science in Agricultural Sales and Service that has two equine study options. Students can select the Equine Management option or the Equine Training option. Each option equals 20 credits towards the total 69 credits for the Associate of Science degree.

      Equine management courses include equine marketing and equine facility management, and the equine training courses include four equine training techniques classes.

    Equine Studies Institute

    • Enroll in the Equine Studies Institute to begin your equine education. There, you can train to become either a certified riding instructor or a certified horse trainer. Transfer your courses to their affiliate institution, Breyer State University, to earn your Bachelor of Science degree in Equine Studies.

      It takes 12 courses to earn either the Professional Riding Instructor or the Professional Horse Trainer Certification, and students are awarded a certificate for each course they complete. The professional rider courses include conformation and selection for performance and teaching techniques, and the horse trainer courses include bits, saddle fitting and hoof balance, behavior modification techniques and stable management.
