Admission Information for Excelsior Nursing's LPN to RN

Excelsior College offers an online LPN-to-RN bridge program allowing nurses to advance in their career while maintaining their current lifestyle and full-time workload. The program is specifically designed as an associate degree program giving students the necessary tools and experience to pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses to obtain their RN license. Those who wish to pursue a bachelor or master degree must have already passed the NCLEX-RN and currently have a license to practice as an RN.
  1. Beginning the Admission Process

    • The cost of applying to Excelsior College is $75. LPN candidates must submit a copy of their current license or certificate to verify professional status in their appropriate health care profession. Applicants can download a printable version of the Excelsior College application, or access the online undergraduate application for admission. Those who wish to complete their application on line must create a MyEC user account before they can begin the application process.

    Enrollment

    • Candidates accepted into the LPN-to-RN associate degree program must begin the next part of the admission process, which is enrollment. The type of enrollment that must be completed varies depending on the needs of the candidate. The Excelsior Course Option for enrollment requires a minimum of 12 Excelsior College course credits to be completed before graduation. Those who require fewer than six credits to obtain their associate degree can select the Multi-Source Option, which does not have an Excelsior College course requirement. The Multi-Source Option is ideal for candidates who already have college credits that have been successfully transferred to Excelsior College.

    Enrollment Fee

    • Enrollment fees must be paid before candidates can begin the enrollment process. Those enrolling in the Excelsior Course Option must pay a $395 enrollment fee. The Multi-Source Option requires a $895 enrollment fee. Those enrolling on line must be prepared to pay their enrollment fee with a credit card before they begin the enrollment process.

    Transfer Credits

    • Undergraduate credits earned from a wide variety of sources may be transferable towards an Excelsior College degree. Excelsior College typically accepts credits from regionally accredited colleges and universities. Credits from colleges or universities recognized by the New York State Education Department and those that have been evaluated by the Excelsior College faculty and found to follow acceptable educational practices and apply toward their degree programs are also accepted. Credits earned toward the nursing component of the program must have been earned within five years of the date of enrollment in the program.

    Fees

    • The only difference in fees between the Multi-Source Option and the Excelsior Course Option for standard students is the enrollment fee. Candidates can expect to pay a $440 annual fee and a $495 graduation fee regardless of what enrollment option they choose. Additional fees such as examination registration fees and course materials also apply to both enrollment options. Veterans and military personnel enrolled in the Multi-Source Option pay only $740 for their enrollment fee. Military personnel also receive discounted rates if they are enrolled in the Excelsior Course Option with enrollment fees at $130, graduation fees at $130 and a waiver in annual fees as long as they remain active in their course work towards attaining their degree.
