Nursing Colleges in Nebraska

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, almost 600,000 new nursing positions will be created by 2018, making it the fastest growing profession in the country. Nursing colleges in Nebraska seek to graduate students at all levels of training. Community colleges produce LPNs and RNs while universities affiliated with medical centers offer graduate and postgraduate degrees.
  1. Mid-Plains Community College

    • Mid-Plains Community College, with two branches in North Platte and one in McCook, offers an accredited Associate Degree designed for students interested in becoming a Registered Nurse. Upon graduation, students have entry-level skills and are eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination. Coursework is completed on campus and clinical work is performed at hospitals, clinics and long term care facilities. The college also offers a Licensed Practical Nurse program, EMT training and training for medical technologists and dental assistants.

    Nebraska Methodist College

    • Established in 1891, Nebraska Methodist College offers certificate, undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing and allied health. This college, located in Omaha, provides both classroom and online learning opportunities. Students complete the Educated Citizen Core Curriculum--a set of principles based on knowledge, ability and values--in addition to coursework specific to their degree. Certificate programs last 12 months or fewer. Associate Degree programs concentrate on allied health subjects like sonography and respiratory care. Both traditional and accelerated Bachelor Degree programs are offered.

    University of Nebraska Medical Center School of Nursing

    • The University of Nebraska's Center for Nursing Science in Omaha contains state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories that prepare students for complex nursing environments. UNMC offers Bachelor, Master and Postgraduate Degrees as well as continuing education courses. Web-based distance learning options, accelerated programs and specialty tracks are among student's options. Patient care involves training with students from all of UNMC's departments and, in 2007, the graduate program was ranked in the top 50 in the country by U.S. News & World Report. The university also has campuses with nursing programs in Lincoln, Kearney, Norfolk and Scottsbluff.

    BryanLGH College of Health Sciences School of Nursing

    • BryanLGH College of Health Sciences, affiliated with the medical center of the same name, offers Bachelor, Master and Associate Degree programs. The Master of Science program at the School of Nurse Anesthesia includes extensive clinical practice and rotations in local hospitals. The RN-BSN completion program at the School of Nursing awards 36 credit hours toward a degree to students with their RN. BryanLGH is one of only two colleges in the U.S. to offer graduate certification in Simulation Education.
