Fast Track Medical Schools

Medical school typically takes eight years to complete with four years of undergraduate classes and four years of medical classes. Students accepted to a fast-track medical school enroll in programs designed for completion in as little as six years. Students attending fast-track medical schools may have to attend summer classes to reduce the number of years in college.
  1. University of Miami: Miller School of Medicine

    • The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine offers a combined bachelor of science/doctor of medicine degree. Miller School of Medicine has campuses in Miami and Coral Gables, Florida. This fast-track medical school is available to high school students and undergraduates after three years at the university. High school students apply to the honors program in medicine, while undergraduates apply to the medical scholars program. Completion of a medical degree typically takes seven years, but students have the opportunity to take an eighth year, if needed. Several dual programs of study are also available for the college graduate who wants to obtain a doctor of medicine degree in combination with a doctor of philosophy, master's of business administration or master's of public health.

    Northeastern Ohio Universities: Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine

    • The Northeastern Ohio Universities: Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy (NEOUCOM) offer medical degrees in six to seven years through partnerships with three colleges. Students must complete the first two to three years of undergraduate education at The University of Akron, Kent State University or Youngstown State University. After undergraduate studies are complete, students complete four years of medical education at NEOUCOM medical school. High school students are encouraged to complete four years of advanced math, four years of science and four years of college-level English. Applications must be submitted to NEUOCOM and not the individual colleges students will attend for undergraduate classes. Students will receive a bachelor's of science and doctor of medicine degree upon graduation.

    Drexel University College of Medicine

    • Drexel University College of Medicine offers fast-track medical degrees with combined bachelor's of science or bachelor's of arts and doctor of medicine degrees. The programs are a joint venture between Drexel University College of Medicine and designated undergraduate colleges and universities. Drexel University partners with Rosemont College, Ursinus College and West Chester University, for high school student admissions. Freshman undergraduate students at Allegheny College can apply to the fast-track medical degree program. Sophomore undergraduate students at Rutgers University (Brunswick Campus) can apply to the program. Juniors must apply through Drexel University. Students must apply to one of the partner schools before being interviewed for a position in the fast-track medical degree program.

    Boston University: MD Program

    • Boston University offers a fast-track medical degree program to high school students or high school graduates who have yet to enter college. Students can complete a liberal arts/medical education in seven years. Students must attend summer school for 12 weeks to complete the bachelor's of art and doctor of medicine degrees in the allotted time. Students who wish to apply to the Boston University School of Medicine must apply directly to the Association of American Medical College in Washington.
