List of AAMC Medical Schools

The AAMC, or Association of American Medical Colleges, seeks to support medical education and practicing health-care workers. It represents more than 130 accredited medical schools in the United States, as well as other institutions and medical centers. Among medical schools that are representative of AAMC are Albany Medical College, Emory University School of Medicine and Tulane University School of Medicine.

    • Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, was founded 1839 and is a private college that prides itself on maintaining a selective and small class size. Admission interviews are extended by invitation only, according to the college admissions office. The admissions office carefully reviews not only academic and standardized test scores but also a student's community involvement and extracurricular activities. The college offers both undergraduate and graduate studies programs.

    Emory University School of Medicine

    • In the heart of Atlanta, Georgia, the Emory University School of Medicine offers not only standard medical training, but also allows students to specialize in areas such as physical therapy, medical imaging and anesthesiology. Emory seeks to graduate scientifically minded students who demonstrate compassion, integrity and leadership. The average MCAT score for incoming Emory students in 2006 was 33 out of 45, according to Emory's admissions office. Students who enter competitive U.S. medical schools generally score 30 or better. The average GPA for incoming Emory medical students was 3.66 on a 4-point scale. Emory has a competitive pool of applicants to choose from.

    Tulane University School of Medicine

    • The Tulane University School of Medicine is near the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. This school has 20 academic departments, including neurosurgery, structural and cellular biology, microbiology and immunology, as well as family and community medicine. It also includes various centers for patient care and research, such as the Tulane Cancer Center and the Center for Gene Therapy. The Tulane admissions office recommends that prospective students take a broad variety of courses as undergraduates, including science and non-science courses. They should also demonstrate an interest in community service and campus activities.
