The Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona California, is a research university with an osteopathic medical school. The university offers various options in the field of health sciences. The Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) program is a four-year medical program that provides students with a comprehensive medical education. Western University focuses on extensive clinical training as part of its D.O. program, and students must complete 90 hours of prerequisite coursework prior to applying to the program. Areas of study covered by the program include osteopathic principles and practice, the molecular and cellular basis of medicine, introduction to disease, immunity and therapeutics, clinical integration, internal medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine and emergency medicine.

Nova Southeastern University in Florida also offers students an opportunity to study osteopathic medicine. Nova Southeastern's medical program offers various degree programs in addition to the D.O. degree. Students can also pursue a master's degree in public health (M.P.H.); a master of science in biomedical informatics, which is the use of medical information through acquisition, storage and retrieval to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of medical treatment; and a joint-degree program leading to the D.O. and a Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree. Nova Southeastern has also established a bridge program that allows podiatric doctors to go on and obtain the D.O. degree with less required coursework. The D.O. program lasts approximately four years. During that time, students have the opportunity to obtain their specialization in several areas of medical practice: family medicine, psychiatry, surgery, rural medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics, preventative medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics, and gynecology.

Oklahoma State University's osteopathic medical program is one of two school of medicine located in the state. Like the program at Nova Southeastern, Oklahoma State offers multiple programs of study through its various joint-degree programs. The medical school at OSU is divided into two primary academic divisions: clinical science and biomedical science. The school offers a joint Ph.D. program in biomedical science that is pursued in conjunction with the D.O. program. Areas of specialization include pharmacology and physiology, anatomy and cell biology, pathology and microbiology, and chemistry. In the area of clinical science, students within the D.O. program have the opportunity to pursue studies in fields such as rural medicine, surgery, pediatrics, osteopathic manipulative medicine, internal medicine and family medicine.
