Pre-med is the first step in finishing medical school. While there is no specific major, there are plenty of related ones that can give you the academic background and experience necessary to get into your desired graduate program.   1. Washington University

    • Washington University in Saint Louis isn't the most well known of universities in terms of fame, but the university makes up for it by its committed faculty. Washington University was established in 1853, and it sits on a 169-acre campus near the historic Forest Park. The medical school itself almost occupies the same amount of territory.

      Some of the programs available to study at Washington University include veterinary science, dentistry and medicine. Students will also have a chance to get hands-on experience at the on-campus medical school. Also, the campus is somewhat smaller than other famed universities, with about 6000 students, which gives students easier access to faculty members.

    Harvard

    • Harvard is considered to be one of the best academic institutions in the world; it's also one of the oldest universities in the United States. Since its inception in 1632, the university has regularly topped the charts in global rankings. Its pre-medical programs are no different.

      The Harvard Pre-Medical Society is a student run organization that helps potential med students with resources, test preparation and general advice. Regardless of what a student wishes to emphasize in upon reaching graduate school, there is a mentoring program available.

    UCLA

    • You can find UCLA in Westwood Village, a mere 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean on a campus spanning 419 acres. UCLA is one of the better choices of schools for those on the west coast of the United States. Every year it ranks at the top in terms of received applications.

      Some of the medical school-related undergraduate programs include molecular biology, microbiology, immunology and genetics. Research and clinical internship opportunities are abundant. The UCLA hospital system consists of three hospitals, which are Neuropsychiatric Hospital, UCLA Medical Center Westwood and Santa Monica Hospital.
