Colleges Near Kentucky With a Pediatrician Program

Those interested in pursuing a degree in pediatric medicine obviously have a special song in their hearts. For residents of Kentucky, only two pediatric programs exist. These two programs have exemplary reputations backed by major hospitals and research facilities.
  1. University of Kentucky College of Medicine

    • University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington has been evolving since its establishment in 1961. Major developments include the 1997 construction of the Kentucky Children's Hospital, which operates at the most advanced levels of pediatric medicine. The college offers a three-year pediatrics residency, four-year combined medicine and pediatrics residency, and a five-year combined child psychiatry and pediatrics residency. The pediatric program also boasts the "Continuity Clinic," where residents regularly visit clinics to work with the community.

    University of Louisville School of Medicine

    • Louisville is home to the University of Louisville School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics. The pediatrics program ranks number two in size for clinical departments at the university and has a number of medical research facilities including the Kosair Children's Hospital Research Institute. The department offers a three-year pediatrics residency and a four-year combined medicine and pediatrics residency. The university also offers the competitive and highly regarded Summer Pediatric Externship.

    University of Cincinnati Department of Internal Medicine

    • The University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville are the only pediatrician programs in the state; however, just over the border in Ohio, the University of Cincinnati also offers a three-year pediatric residency program. The residency is held at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital, which is part of a major medical campus that also includes the University Hospital and the Veteran's Administration Medical Center. The Children's Hospital is the only Level I pediatric trauma center in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana and has been one of the top recipients of funding from the National Institutes of Health.
