The University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville are the only pediatrician programs in the state; however, just over the border in Ohio, the University of Cincinnati also offers a three-year pediatric residency program. The residency is held at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital, which is part of a major medical campus that also includes the University Hospital and the Veteran's Administration Medical Center. The Children's Hospital is the only Level I pediatric trauma center in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana and has been one of the top recipients of funding from the National Institutes of Health.
