Colleges With Counseling Majors

Counseling as a subject is a postgraduate qualification and requires an appropriate undergraduate major in a subject such as psychology. Career prospects after such a degree are numerous, and include possible employment in schools, hospitals or private clinics. The student that is serious about pursuing counseling as a career will continue studying beyond their degree and will often acquire a masters or doctorate (Ph.D.) degree to specialize in counseling.

    • The University of Phoenix offers a variety of counseling masters degrees such as "Master of Science in Counseling/Community." Undergraduate programs in psychology are also offered if the full career is needed in a single institution.

    • Argosy University offers masters degrees in Clinical Psychology as a broad subject but also with a specialism such as "Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology." These give the student flexibility in deciding upon their ultimate career path, rather than having to specialize early. Psychology undergraduate degrees are also offered.
