With two main campuses in Maryland's largest city, Baltimore City Community College offers an Associate Applied Science Degree through its Dental Hygiene Program. The degree can typically be completed in two years. The dental hygiene degree offered by the college is accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA), and its graduates are immediately eligible to apply for the title Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH). The curriculum includes such basic science courses as anatomy and physiology, as well as more focused courses such as oral radiology. The college also contains its own dental hygiene clinic, which is open to both students and the public.

The University of Maryland Baltimore is a branch of the University of Maryland school system. The branch itself has been in existence since 1807 and maintains a focus on social work and public health. Within the university is the UMB Dental School, which, according to its website offers "the only Bachelor of Science programs at the entry level and degree completion level and a Master of Science program in dental hygiene in Maryland." These programs require two years of study for full-time students and three years for part-timers. Each program features a range of science courses, such as microbiology, as well as socially based courses, such as social sciences. The dental school works in affiliation with the Eastern Shore Dental Clinic in Maryland.

Allegany College of Maryland, a public community college, is located in the city of Cumberland, next to the West Virginia border. The school offers 50 degrees, including one in dental hygiene. This program is designed to teach students to become all-around successful employees with both "proficient clinical skills" and "proficient written and oral communication skills." The school also has its own dental hygiene clinic, which is open to members of the community.
