How to Register for the ACT Online

The best way to register for the ACT is by doing it online. It is faster and costs the same as registering by mail. The ACT is a college admissions examination. It tests in English, Mathematics, Reading and Science. There is also an optional 30-minute writing test. The purpose of creating an account online is to register for the test and to send your scores online as well. The ACT is an achievement test, distinguished from SAT, which is an aptitude test.

      Create your account by providing your first and last name, your date of birth and your email address.

      Choose a user name and password.

      Select a test center location and date to take the test. Choose your state and city and a list of testing centers, center codes and dates will appear.

      Look up the college codes on the college code lookup screen. You will need to know the college codes in order to request that your test results be sent to your college choices.

      Look up which colleges require or recommend the ACT Writing Test. Some colleges and universities require and recommend the writing test while others do not need you to take the optional writing test.

      Pay the ACT fees with a credit card. These fees are nonrefundable. The 2010 ACT with no writing test costs $32. This fee includes reports for you, your high school and up to four colleges, if you provide the valid college codes when you register. The ACT with the writing test costs $47. This test includes the same thing as the non-writing test, and the extra $15 is refundable if you decide you do not want to take the writing test before you begin testing.
