Go to the GRE section of the Educational Testing Service website. Click on the link "Register for a computer-based test" then on "Online Registration."
Select "India" in the Country/Location tab. Examine the pop-up, which explains that a computer-based general test is offered there. Click on the link that states "Register online for the computer-based General Test," which is the only format available at testing centers in India.
View the secure browser that enables you to schedule, reschedule, or confirm an exam. Click on "Schedule an Exam" to receive an immediate confirmation. Make sure you understand and adhere to the policies, rules, and regulations prior to choosing the "Next" button.
Read the policies and data privacy notices before choosing "I agree" and selecting the next button. Select the graduate record examination (or the Canadian general test if you would like to attend a Canadian graduate program), then proceed.
Enter your Postal Index Number code--the Indian equivalent of the zip code-- to locate local testing sites in India. Type in your address for a more specific location. Write down the address and telephone number of your selected test site. Choose "get directions" for a convenient printout of the route you must take.
Click on "Choose an Exam" then go to the Data and Time Selection page and select a specific day or availability during a three-month period. Press "Go." Do not close the window while your selection is processing. Select an available date and time when the calendar(s) appear.
Enter your name and address exactly as shown on your identification card. Provide also your email address, day phone, country, and date of birth.
Select the credit card--American Express, Discover, JCB, Mastercard, or Visa--that will be used to pay the balance of US $190 (as of September 2010). Select your payment option and enter the card number, security code, expiration date, and name as it appears on the card. Click "Next" to initiate an electronic authorization to the payment account. Review the order confirmation page.
