For first-time undergraduate applicants, Fisk requires an official, sealed transcript from your high school showing your coursework and grades through the most recent semester. If you are applying as a transfer or graduate student, you will also need to supply transcripts from any other colleges or universities you have attended. Ask your current or past institutions how to request transcripts to be sent directly to Fisk.
Fisk requires that you write and submit a 500-word personal essay on a topic that they have provided. The university offers a selection of topics, but you must choose from the list, so check with them before writing your essay. The essay must be typed; no handwritten work will be accepted.
Fisk requires either your SAT 1 or the ACT score results. These reports must be official, sealed and delivered directly to Fisk by the reporting board. You can designate Fisk University as one of your choices when you take the test or have your scores sent to Fisk at a later time, as long as you meet the application deadline.
Fisk University requires all undergraduate applicants to submit certain forms that act as letters of recommendation. These forms are available for downloading on the Fisk admissions page. One form is specifically for you to give to your school counselor. You will also need recommendations from two teachers or mentors of your choosing. Fisk provides a separate form for you to download and give to them for this purpose. The forms include questions about your academic, extra-curricular and personal and leadership qualities, so try and choose people who know you fairly well to fill out these forms. Graduate students must submit also submit three letters of reference; check with the Admissions office for the correct format.
Whether you choose to fill out the National Association for Common Admission Counseling common application, the Common Black Colleges Application, or the Fisk University application, you will be required to pay an application fee. Check with each site for the current amount. The common application site offers a way to apply for a fee waiver if the cost of applying through their service is out of reach.
