Admissions Requirements for Walden University

Walden University is a for-profit university that provides courses online to students both in the United States and internationally. The school offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in a variety of programs, including business administration, education, psychology, accounting, criminal justice and computer information systems. Students pursuing an education from Walden University must submit an online application and check their program for additional admission requirements.
  1. Online Application

    • The online application is the first step in applying for admission to Walden University. The online application asks you to create a personal profile under which all information and documents will be kept. The profile is comprised of general personal information including your name, address, contact information and email information. Walden University discourages the creation of duplicate profiles, as this can make things more difficult when retrieving information or when the university needs to contact you. You must submit a nonrefundable fee along with the online application.

    Program Goal Statement

    • The program goal statement is a writing piece meant to show off your writing abilities and highlight any important goals or experience you have. The statement is required as part of the master's and doctoral admission processes. Walden University recommends explaining important work, research or academic experience that pertains to the desired program. It is also helpful to include why you chose Walden University and the specific program.

    Employment and Academic History

    • Walden University requires that you include your entire academic history including high school, high school-equivalent programs and university courses. Transcripts from all listed schools must be included with the application to prove prior enrollment and assist in awarding any course equivalencies for past work. Employment history is especially important for the master's and doctoral programs.

    Program Requirements

    • Each program and school has specific requirements for admission. Doctoral or specialist candidates must have at least a master's degree and at least three years of experience in their field, whether professional or academic. Master's candidates must have at least a bachelor's degree in their field. Bachelor's candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Students with at least 12 credits from a prior university who are 24 years or older, are in good standing with the U.S. military or have over 90 quarter hours of credit may be labeled as transfer students. Transfer students are allowed to submit their transcripts for prior learning assessment, which can award course equivalencies.
