Brock prides itself on its ability to develop well-rounded students and this is reflected in its requirements. First-year students working toward a general studies degree must take five courses in at least four departments. They must include one course each from humanities, science and social sciences in addition to two electives.
After successful completion of five introductory courses, general studies students may choose to pursue a more specific three- or four-year bachelor of arts degree. If a student decides to choose a specific area of study, a major, it must be in the area of one of their first-year courses, and the student must have obtained a minimum grade of 60 percent in that course.
To earn a three-year BA in general studies, students must complete 15 credits and maintain an overall grade average of 60 percent. Most of the credits must be taken in humanities and social sciences, and students are not allowed to earn more than five credits from one department.
The university advises that students working toward a BA in general studies plan their program with an academic advisor in the school's Office of the Registrar. That office's web page regarding admission to the university is linked in the Resources section.
