TCU requires that a robust selection of course work be taken at the secondary level. This includes three units each of social sciences, physical sciences and mathematics, four units of English and two units of a foreign language. The school bases its decision on the quality of the course work, grade-point average and your class rank.

TCU accepts SAT and ACT scores. Admission does not require a minimum score on these tests, but 50 percent of freshman admitted in 2008 scored between 23 and 28 on the ACT and between 1630 and 1860 on the SAT based on three parts: critical reading, mathematics and writing. If an applicant submits scores from both tests, the admissions department considers the higher one. Applicants who have been out of school for three or more years are exempt from submitting test scores.
Every applicant must submit an essay, 300 to 500 words in length, with his application. The admission staff weighs the essay heavily, and it can offset low test scores and secondary school achievement. TCU also requires an evaluation submitted by a secondary counselor.
Applicants must submit a resume listing all extracurricular activities, including volunteer work and special talents. Roles involving leadership, work experience, travel and community stewardship are important to TCU's admission evaluation.
Students admitted to TCU must have a Report of Medical History--documentation of immunizations, dates of tetanus and booster shots, known allergies and all other pertinent medical information--on file. All full-time students must have medical insurance through the university or a third-party provider.
The admissions office judges international applicants on scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, recommendations and English proficiency. All potential international students must complete the International Student Application for Undergraduate Admission. All scholastic grades and test scores should be above average. The school accepts scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language. Applicants must score at least an 80 on the Internet exam, 213 on the computer exam or 550 on the paper exam. Students who do not demonstrate command of the English language can enroll in TCU's 11-month Intensive English program.
