Music Colleges in Florida

Several Florida universities have music programs for undergraduate and graduate students. These programs cover such specialties as performance, theory, conducting, composition, music history, music education and the music industry. These programs prepare students for careers in orchestras, as soloists, teachers and industry professionals.
  1. University of Florida School of Music

    • As part of the University of Florida's College of Fine Arts, the School of Music offers graduate and undergraduate programs in instrumental performance, voice along with choral conducting, sacred music, composition, music history and music education. Prospective undergraduate students must audition; the audition consists of performance on their instrument (or voice) as well as a brief theory test. Graduate students are also required to audition; requirements differ in that applicants must choose from specific pieces of music depending on their primary instrument.

    University of Miami - Frost School of Music

    • Originally a music conservatory, the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami offers 54 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in areas ranging from instrumental and vocal performance to musical education, music business and musical theatre. Prospective undergraduate students must apply to the University and the Frost School of Music as well as audition for acceptance into a music program. Auditions are held on-campus but applicants can provide a videotaped audition if they cannot audition in person. Graduate applicants must schedule their on-campus audition with an appropriate faculty member for their instrument (or voice).

    University of Central Florida Department of Music

    • Students at the University of Central Florida Department of Music can choose from majors in vocal and instrumental performance, education, music technology and theory. They can participate in various ensembles (choral, jazz, opera and orchestra) and attend summer camps and clinics focusing on various instruments and genres. Prospective music majors must apply to the university for admission and audition for acceptance to the music program of their choice.
