Florida Agricultural & Mechanical (or A&M) University is an historically African-American college and was originally founded in 1887 as the State Normal College for Colored Students. It is the only historically black college in the Florida State University system. Students interested in applied sciences may find many interesting majors to choose from in the Engineering, Architecture, Health Sciences and the Engineering Science, Technology and Agriculture colleges. More creative students may be interested in the School of Journalism and Graphic Communications or obtain a degree in Theatre, Fine Arts or Jazz Studies.
