Baseball Colleges in Florida

Baseball colleges throughout the country hire scouts to recruit players with professional ability. Many of the top baseball colleges produce major league prospects and contend annually to play in the College World Series. The state of Florida has three colleges that have multiple and recent College World Series appearances. Also, BaseballAmerica.com recently ranked these schools in its "top 25 pre-season rankings."
  1. Florida State University

    • BaseballAmerica.com ranks Florida State University 9th in its 2009 top- 25 pre-season rankings. The school's last appearance in the College World Series was in 2008 and the school now has 20 College World Series appearances with its appearance in the 2010 game. Also in 2010, 10 players from the school were drafted by Major League Baseball teams. According to the school's newsletter, the Seminole, only Texas has a higher winning percentage in the history of Division 1 baseball schools. In fact, it goes on to state the school has never had a losing season in its history. Players at Florida State University play at one of the best fields in the country. The field was voted the best field in the country in 2001 by CollegeBaseball360.com.

    The University of Florida

    • BaseballAmerica.com ranks the University of Florida 7th in its top-25 pre-season rankings. With 5 previous College World Series appearances, the school made another appearance in the 2010 games. The school is located in Gainesville, Florida, and is a member of Division 1's Southeastern Conference. Most recently, two of its players, Avery Barnes and Preston Tucker, received "All SEC" (Southeastern Conference) recognition for outstanding play. The program is heavily scouted by Major League Baseball scouts and the school had 10 players drafted into the league in 2009.

    University of Miami

    • In addition to its prominent college football program, the University of Miami also boasts a quality college baseball program. BaseballAmerica.com ranks the school 16th in its top 25 preseason rankings. Located in Coral Gables, Florida, the school has 23 College World Series appearances and made its last appearance in 2008. Catcher Yasmani Grandal was recently named to Yahoo Sports All-America Team. Additionally, the school's baseball field is named after Yankees All-Star 3rd baseman Alex Rodriguez. Most of the players on the current roster are from the state of Florida.
