  1. Tulane University

    • Tulane University is a private research university that was founded in 1834. As of 2009, the school had about 6,700 undergraduates and 4,400 graduate students. The university comprises 10 colleges and schools, including schools of architecture, business, law, liberal arts, medicine, public health, social work, science and engineering and continuing studies. Tulane's athletic teams compete in NCAA Division I athletics. Notable former faculty members at Tulane include writer John Kennedy Toole and U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist. Tulane University was ranked 50th in US News and World Report's 2010 ranking of national universities.

    • Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge (LSU) is a public research university that was founded in 1860. The school now functions as the Louisiana State University System's flagship university. As of 2009, the school had about 25,200 undergraduates and 4,100 graduate students. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs within 17 colleges and schools. LSU's sports teams compete in the NCAA and the Southeastern Conference. Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge tied for 128th in US News and World Report's 2010 ranking of national universities.

    Loyola University New Orleans

    • Loyola University New Orleans is a private, Jesuit university that was founded in 1904. As of 2009, the school had about 2,600 undergraduates and 2,200 graduate students. The university offers undergraduate degree programs in 21 fields and graduate degree programs in seven fields. The university contains five colleges: business, humanities and natural sciences, social sciences, law and music and fine arts. Beginning in the 2010-2011 athletic season, Loyola University's sports teams will compete in the Southern States Athletic Conference. In 2010, US News and World Report ranked Loyola University New Orleans 6th among Southern universities that grant bachelors and masters degrees.
