The largest university offering a degree in speech-language pathology, the University of Maryland in College Park offers degrees in hearing and language. They offer a variety of courses for training in speech-language pathology, language, audiology and hearing or speech sciences. Required courses include psycholinguistics, anatomy and physiology of speech, speech and language development, phonetic science and hearing science. Advanced degrees are also offered.

Located in Denton, the University of North Texas offers professional education in the areas of speech-language and audiology. The department provides coursework and research and operates the UNT Speech and Hearing Center for diagnosis and treatment of speech and hearing disorders. Students have access to the clinic and gain clinical experience working with clients at the center. Classroom instruction includes models and theory of communication, techniques and rationale for evaluation and management of disorders and procedures for working with patients who have typical disorders.
