The Best Architecture Schools in the United States

Obtaining a degree in architecture will prepare you for a career in many different areas including the creation of blueprints for homes, buildings and monuments. You will also learn valuable skills in graphic design. While there are many good schools in this field, the three schools below consistently rank at the top for undergraduate architecture degrees, according to sources such as Architecture Daily and Architectural Record.

    • For more than 130 years, Cornell University Department of Architecture has been teaching and training young adults for architectural careers. Cornell University has one of the oldest and most respected schools of architecture in the country. Each year there are approximately 275 undergraduate students, with an average of 55 graduating in each class. To be considered for admission to the Cornell University Department of Architecture, you must go through a required interview, submit a portfolio and have the required test scores. Undergraduate degrees available are Bachelor of Architecture Professional, Bachelors of Architecture Curriculum and Bachelor of Science in Architecture. Financial aid is available.

    Syracuse University

    • Portfolio requirements for admissions into the Syracuse University School of Architecture are strict. You will need to prepare an opening statement, provide 12-20 pieces of artwork, including drawings and any other 2-D or 3-D media. The opening statement must describe your interest in architecture and speak your aspirations. Artwork should include your best and most recent pieces. Financial aid is available at the school and based on either need or merit.

    California Polytechnic State University

    • Cal Poly's architecture school has consistently ranked in the top three architecture schools in the United States for a decade. The school takes pride in offering students an intellectually unique and physically beautiful environment. The location of Cal Poly is in between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The university offers both graduate and undergraduate programs. The undergraduate program lasts five years and results in an accredited professional degree. The graduate program, while not accredited, is an excellent second degree for student who already has an architecture or related degree.
