Architecture Schools in the Western US

The mountainous landscape of the Western United States lends itself to creative architecture, blending Roman influence and Gothic touches with original elements such as the influence of light on a particular space. As such, the Western states have plenty to offer when it comes to departmental college studies of architecture, whether a student is looking to become a city planner, specialize in Western style or simply study the craft of architecture with a future career in mind.
  1. The University of Arizona

    • The University of Arizona's College of Architecture, students are trained in the ethical and professional practice of architecture. Due to the school's location, the landscape of the Southwestern United States is emphasized in the curriculum. University of New Mexcio

    • The University of New Mexico School of Architecture & Planning in Albuquerque offers two very different architecturally focused undergraduate degrees. The bachelor of arts program in environmental planning and design serves as a gateway to a graduate degree in either community and regional planning or landscape architecture. The course of study looks at the integration of human needs and natural systems to understand how to respond to shifting landscapes and environments, particularly in the Southwestern United States. The other undergraduate degree is a bachelor of arts in architecture, a pre-professional program leading into the two-year graduate program in the same subject. Its focus is the design process of architecture, implemented through studio work.

    University of Nevada-Las Vegas

    • At the University of Nevada-Las Vegas' School of Architecture, students have four architecture programs from which to choose: a bachelor of science in architecture, a bachelor of science in interior architecture and design, the landscape architecture and planning bachelor's program and the master of architecture program. The first is a standard pre-professional program uniting ideas of science, art and technology to form an understanding of 21st century architecture. The interior architecture and design degree is tied to the architectural scene of Las Vegas and based largely on design studio work. In the landscape architecture program, students examine both man-made and natural elements of architecture, while the master's degree focuses on architecture as a career.
