Found in the easternmost New York City borough of Queens, St. John's University was founded in 1870 as a private, Roman Catholic university. The university's undergraduate Speech-Language Pathology and Hearing program is housed within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. A pre-professional program, students gain a comprehensive look at all of the normal processes of communication, as well how communication becomes impaired. In addition to classroom study, the Speech Department periodically offers service opportunities for undergraduate students to gain practical clinical experience in the field. The university also has graduate and doctorate level programs in the field that prepare students for certification of licensure as Speech-Language Pathologist or Audiologist.
