List of Universities in Alberta

There are seven full degree-granting universities in the province of Alberta. Generally, international students pay much higher tuition fees than Canadian students and, in some cases, residents of Alberta pay even lower tuition fees than other Canadians. The Alberta Ministry of Advanced Education and Technology oversees Alberta universities.
  1. Athabasca University

    • Athabasca University focuses on distance education and is Canada's leader in post-secondary online learning. 2009-2010 enrollment was almost 40,000 students, most of whom are part-time.

    Concordia University College of Alberta

    • Concordia is a small, Christian university that focuses on undergraduate liberal arts studies. Concordia also offers church work programs. 2009-2010 full-time and part-time enrollment was a little more than 1,500 students.

    Mount Royal University

    • Mount Royal University changed from a college to a university in 2009 and offers small class sizes at three campuses in Calgary. 2009-2010 full-time and part-time enrollment was a little more than 10,000 students.

    The King's University College

    • The King's University College is a Christian school just outside of Edmonton offering undergraduate degrees. It focuses on academic and spiritual learning as well as community service. 2009-2010 full-time and part-time enrollment was almost 700 students.

    University of Alberta

    • The University of Alberta is Alberta's largest teaching and research university and offers more than 360 undergraduate and graduate programs. The faculty has won the most 3M Awards for Teaching Excellence of any university in Canada. 2009-2010 full-time and part-time enrollment was almost 50,000 students.

    University of Lethbridge

    • The University of Lethbridge is a liberal arts university that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and maintains research centers in certain fields, including water research, neuroscience and social marketing.
